Why Doens’t Fire Island Look Like Riis Beach?

ONE reason is because of transportation equity.

The cost of a roundtrip ride to Riis Beach on the MTA is $5.50. If you're up to it and able you could even bike there. The cost of a roundtrip to Fire Island is nearly $45. If you want a sandwich and a soda when you get off the ferry it could run you another $20. Cocktail at the bar? $15. The moral of the story is that things add up quickly.

As part of our Event Equity Initiative, we have built a wonderful partnership with the Bay Bus and the Sayville Ferry Service. Both businesses have given our organization an in-kind donation of 54 roundtrip tickets. BaBEC will be providing those tickets to self identifying Trans, Black and/or brown community members that would benefit from this program.
