TOMIK DASH
PRESIDENT
-
Tomik is Brooklyn native who grew up mostly in Atlanta, yet didn’t know much about Fire Island until 2014 when he saw the legendary DJ Lina streaming her sets live from the Tea Dance’s in the Pines. He visited the very next year, fell in love with it, and has come back every year since. His love for island led him to launch Fag Rag Fire Island magazine in the summer of 2020. And during the same summer, amidst the racial unrest in the country due to police brutality, he founded BaBEC as a way to connect the island with the progress happening around the country. Tomik is committed to developing and implementing new and exciting initiatives for the community.

BaBEC was a calling for me… and I picked up the phone. This organization came together organically as a result of some ideas that I put out into the world regarding how Fire Island can do better and be better, specifically in regards to racial dynamics. Everyone sort of turned to me for guidance on how to make sure that these ideas came to fruition. Since then it’s been my passion to grow this organization into something that makes an impact on-island, off-island, and in people’s personal lives.
VICTOR JEFFREYS II
-
Victor Jeffreys II is a long time member of the Fire Island community. Victor has had a career in finance and media, he is also a tri-chair of the Committee on Black Equality (CoBE) in The Pines and a prolific artist.

DEVIN DOMINGO
-
Devin is a long time NYC resident who is passionate about democratizing technology and creating collaborative cultures from the bottom-up. Devin has worked over a decade building technical services, products, solutions, and relationships with for and non-profits in the IT space. He has launched and implemented company diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and initiatives at BetterCloud, launching their inaugural diversity council, LGBTQIA+ employee resource group Rainbow Mafia, and creating company-wide experiences through community leader storytelling, implicit bias training, and fireside chats to advance intersectional dialogue. Devin is eager to make an impact with BaBEC’s board by further driving member and volunteer activities that propel black and trans voices on Fire Island and beyond.
-
I originally came to Fire Island in the COVID summer of 2020 to find a safe space for queer liberation and healing. While I did find peace in Fire Island as a white-presenting queer man, I noticed the larger queer community, specifically black, trans, latinx, and other non-white communities, were physically missing from tea, house parties, the coast line, and every corner you look. Every queer “Mecca” should be a place for all, not just for some, which is why BaBEC will be THE organization transforming Fire Island into a safe space for the whole queer community.
