“FIRE ISLAND” BY JACK PARLETT

Probably one of the greatest queer historical accounts of Fire Island since Esther Newton’s “Cherry Grove, Fire Island: Sixty Years in America's First Gay and Lesbian Town,” Jack Parlett has written a book that tells the story of the island through the lens of artists and creatives who took refuge on its shore. While the bulk of the book is about the history of the island, Jack also speaks to its future and talks about the efforts that BaBEC is doing to make Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove more racially inclusive.

Considering the short amount of time that our organization has existed, being noticed for the hard work that we do and cemented into the history of the island by way of being included in a book such as this one is a huge honor.
